Dayman was Charlie Kelly's second serious attempt at writing music following The Nightman. It was spontaneously composed by Charlie and Dennis in Charlie's apartment after both were kicked out of Mac and Frank's band. When performed by the duo, the crowd at Paddy's threw their trash at them, heckled and booed, with one guy calling out "gay!" mid song, which all forced Charlie and Dennis off of the stage. [3x9]
Charlie later adapted the song for the climax of his musical The Nightman Cometh during season 4, where it was performed by Dennis, Dee, Mac, and Frank.
The actual song was written by Cormac Bluestone, Charlie Day, Glenn Howerton, Scott Marder, & Robert Rosell.
