Plot[]
11:00 AM, On a Tuesday, Dublin, Ireland
Dennis is in a hospital. De wakes him up by throwing scalding hot stew on his face. Dee explains that the reason she didn't die when he swung the axe at her was that he had a 105 degree fever and was so weak he couldn't even lift the axe. Dennis realizes that they might have been right about him having COVID all along. The doctor comes in. Dennis tells him he is not doing fine because he will have to the pay the hospital bill. However the doctor tells him he doesn't have since Ireland has public health care. Dee starts telling jokes to the doctor, which he likes, so they agree to go for drinks at her place.
Because of her date, Dee kicks Dennis out of the castle. Frank arrives, telling them he wants to reconnect with them, mainly Dennis. After awkwardly failing to get a kiss from Dennis, Frank reveals he has an ulterior motive: Shelley Kelly. He wants to humiliate him, so Charlie will come back to him. Dennis agrees on the grounds that the castle be used in some way. Dee back out, telling them that since they have ruined her acting gig, this is her one chance to have a good time right here in Ireland. She decides to go to the bog to get some peat moss to cover up the smell of Dennis' feces (he pooped sometime after collapsing due to COVID) and asks that they be gone when she gets back.
Mac's priest, Gus, asks what made him want to join the priesthood. Mac tells him it was when God took away his Irish identity and made him Dutch, so he could smite him for the urges given to him when he was born. Gus explains that God does not work in that way, but Mac back this up recounting the story of Noah, and when the Nazis opened up the Ark of the Covenant in Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark. Gus explains that many of the Bible's stories are actually metaphors, the book itself a guidepost, so over time the interpretations would change. The Church can, too he explains, also mentioning that the God they believe in is merciful, he loves everyone equally, because if he didn't why did He create it all?
Shelley Kelly takes Charlie Kelly to a cemetery. There, they find all the deceased Kelly family members: John Patrick Kelly (1609-1650) died of the plague with his son, William. Michael Kelly became a loony and died eating rocks, believing they were eggs. Shelley explains that the bodies are not actually buried, but were instead, per the family tradition, thrown off of a large cliff, into the sea. It comes from a legend that man's soul is only released after his body is thrown into the sea. He tells them that while the men of the family watch over them, the woman roam around as banshees and sighting them would mean your life is drawing to an end.
Dee is at the bog, looking for peat moss, when her phone buzzes. She takes some selfies, but in the process, she stumbles into the bog. She tries to move, but she is stuck. She soon starts to sink.
Dennis talks to the castle. He sees that it will be a humiliating dinner, and Frank suggests putting a turd in a bowl of soup. Dennis explains how it should go. They invite the two over for a classy dinner, where they will wine and dine. Frank must proceed to mercilessly insult Shelley by pointing all of his flaws, before luring him over to the castle's murder-hole. Once inside the hole, Dennis will douse in scalding substances. Frank congratulates Dennis for his diabolical plan. Dennis explains that it was Frank's of abandonment and wrong-doings that allowed him to harness his darkness. He thanks Frank for this and kisses his bald head. Mac is at the church with Gus. Mac is disappointed to hear about how all the stories of the Bible are actually metaphors. Gus explains that their faith is a complicated one. He brings up when Mac mentioned having "urges" that the church was not proud of, admitting that he himself also has those "urges". He is gay. He tells Mac there is nothing wrong about homosexuality within the church, as long as they never act on their urges.
Dee has sunk further into the bog. The Waitress comes by and she attempts to ask for help because she has a date with the doctor. The Waitress makes a deal with her: if Dee can correctly guess her name, she will pull her out. Mac announces his plan to join the seminary, overjoying Gus. Gus tells it's going to be a good thing for him to: knowing there is another homosexual priest with him will help him repress his strong urges and keep him on the straight narrow. However, Gus starts acting suspicious when he mentions "wee lads", going to a "new parish" should he ever "slip up". Mac tells Gus he is gay, but he has no idea what Gus is talking about. Gus awkwardly reveals he is gay too.
Shelley and Charlie arrive at the castle. Charlie gives Frank a huge block of cheese they made together. The three sit down. Almost immediately Franks starts subtly pointing otu Shelley's flaws. Charlie interrupts, failing to read the tone of the dinner. Frank gives the two of them gifts: Shelley's gift is a pair of swimming goggles, but there is no gift for Charlie. Frank has prepared them soup, and for Shelley, he has put some meatballs in it. From behind a painting, Dennis whispers that he does not remember adding in any meatballs. Charlie, sensing a trap, asks what's actually in the soup. Frank defends, claiming the soup is safe, but Charlie corners him by asking if the meatballs in question are, in fact, turds. Frank plays defense again by claiming that the meatballs are homemade. Charlie asks Frank to try a meatball and hands him Shelley's bowl. Frank picks one up with his spoon and forced to chew it and swallow it. Frank spits it out, revealing it is, in fact, a turd. Frank admits he is tired of Charlie hanging out with Shelley and when they get back to Philadelphia, he does not even want to hear his name. Charlie reveals he intends to stay in Ireland to work at the cheese-shop with Shelley. Frank, heartbroken, tells Charlie to never come back, because, as of now, they are officially done. Charlie and Shelley leave. Dennis bursts out of the painting and yells at Frank for putting a turd in the soup and eating it.
Dee has fruitlessly tried to guess the Waitress's name, trying "Clementine", "Valentine", "Diana", "Denise", "Dennis" and "Dane". She is now almost under the bogwater. She is angry that she has tried every name in the world, but she has not gotten her name yet. The Waitress that she got a while back, but she lied because she wanted to see Dee suffer. She pulls her up, but she herself gets stuck. Dee does not help her, citing that she has a date to attend to.
Charlie apologizes to Shelley for Frank's disgusting behaviour. He tells him he will never forgive Frank for almost tricking Shelley into eating shit, but Shelley tells Charlie it is a good thing for one human being to forgive the actions of another. He tells him that true Kellys always make thing right with the men in their life. Dee stumbles onto the road, just as Shelley and Charlie approach. Because she is covered in bogwater, they cannot make her out. Charlie asks Shelley "What is that?". After passing her, Shelley ominously answers Charlie's question with "a banshee".
